Welcome. My name is Gerald Goodman, an Emeritus Professor in the Psychology Department at UCLA. This Home Page will eventually send you to proven lessons for doing therapy at home. Specifically, the lessons teach talk-therapy techniques that work with friends. family and loved ones at home or anywhere. Some major lessons take ten minutes and some practice exercises. Micro-lessons take about three minutes to teach specific therapy tools. I use them to confess my mistakes as examples of what to avoid. Microlessons also uncover trade secrets that my profession fails to reveal.

My preoccupation with giving psychological helping skills to the public was inspired over 35 years of teaching therapy to UCLA grad students. Surprisingly, most of those skills are easy to learn after practicing. Learning therapy talk-tools don't take great wisdom, but rather ways to make sessions emotionally safe, accepting, and full of empathic understanding.

TO BE CONTINUED.

Leftover thoughts.

My qualifications for teaching the public to provide therapy to friends, family and loved ones

I studied the practice of psychotherapy and researched the process of therapy decades ago with Carl Rogers at the University of Chicago. Training people to provide therapeutic conversations beyond the therapy office became my life's work at UC Berkeley.

I will disclose how trade secrets of therapists can be learned online.

Our goal is to empower people with skills to have therapeutic conversations with friends, family & loved-ones .

As a young psychology professor, I felt superior to my patients. It was an awful attitude.
